As physicians caring for patients at the end of their lives, we understand deeply the importance of a dignified and peaceful passing, not just for patients but also for their families. Hospice care provides a supportive environment that surrounds patients and families with emotional support and care. It allows family members to remain in their roles as loved ones without the added stress of caregiving tasks like coordinating care, administering medications, managing equipment, and attending to daily needs.

The dedicated nurses, personal support workers (PSWs), volunteers, and other staff at hospice are incredibly compassionate and attentive. Time and again, we've witnessed the relief and comfort patients and families experience once they settle into hospice care. Many express a profound difference between the hospital environment and hospice, often remarking, "If only all healthcare were like hospice care."
